I’ve been itching to get back in the studio lately to paint. I often have fairly long breaks between painting and find myself mentally taking a different road. Lately, I’ve been thinking more and more abstract. I’ve resisted this for a long time, I like realism and conditioning always told me that there was more skill involved in this kind of work. I feel though that I’m somehow working against myself and what I really want to do. I’ve been looking around to get some inspiration and these are some of my favourites.

art_honesty_painting

I’ve been fascinated by this plant since childhood. Maybe it was something to do with the name Honesty and the fact that it openly showed you where it kept it’s seeds.

This painting has so much detail to it. I love the total fantasy element and the fact that the artist clearly really enjoyed doing this.

art_painting_3

Again the fantasy element of this painting is what grabbed me together with the soft organic colours. Although there is much colour, they are muted and give this a lovely softness.

art_painting_2

This one reminded me of bark and tree stumps. I love the almost monochromatic colour scheme and the incredible amount of detail.

art_painting_rocks

This one has quite a graphic feel to it and although they are clealry rocks, the colours and textures have been exaggerated.
